Kicking for a Cause:Dawsons Supports Swansea Bay Health Charity' Cwtsh Clos Appeal

Cwtsh Clos Appeal Hits Its Target and Dawsons Proudly Played a Part

We are thrilled to share that the Cwtsh Clos Appeal, led by Swansea Bay Health Charity, has officially reached its fundraising target, a milestone joyfully confirmed by Mal Pope during his Homecoming Concert at the Swansea Arena on Wednesday 8th October 2025. Musician and broadcaster Mal Pope kindly backed the campaign in memory of his grandson Gulliver, who was cared for in the NICU.

The appeal was set up to raise £160,000 to fund the refurbishment of the Cwtsh Clos homes at Swansea’s Singleton Hospital, set in a quiet close just a stone’s throw from the hospital’s NICU unit. The two-bed homes are a welcome retreat for those families who live too far away to travel back and forth while their child is receiving treatment at the NICU unit.

It’s extremely important that parents spend as much time as possible with their baby during this very stressful time and that’s where the free-to-use houses come in and now with this wonderful community appeal the homes can be refurbished to ensure the families have a home from home while their child is being cared for in the unit.

At Dawsons, we’re immensely proud to have played our part in supporting such an important cause both on and off the pitch.

From City Stadium Buckets to Footgolf Fundraising

Our fundraising journey began earlier this year where we helped the team with their bucket collections at a Swansea City match, where generous football fans showed their support. But we wanted to take it one step further, quite literally, by hosting our first-ever Footgolf Charity Tournament on Friday, 4th July 2025 at Swansea Footgolf.

For those new to the sport, Footgolf blends the precision of golf with the power of football: kicking a football into oversized holes in as few shots as possible. With the weather on our side that day, the afternoon brought out plenty of competitive spirit and a whole lot of laughter.

Between team entry donations, a cash gift on the day, and Dawsons’ partners kindly covering the bar tab both on the course and later at The Woodman, we were thrilled to raise a grand total of £1,017.05 for the appeal.

Seeing the Difference Firsthand

We were honoured to officially hand over our cheque during the opening of the newly refurbished spaces that the appeal has helped to fund. It was a truly moving experience, and a powerful reminder of how community kindness can turn a vision into a reality.

What You Had to Say

Participant feedback from a local solicitor:

“A fantastic event, great cause, great company, and so well organised. Count me in for next year! Footgolf was the perfect choice – competitive but light-hearted, and such a great way to connect with others in our field. Dawsons pulled off another brilliant event, and it’s inspiring to see local businesses leading the way in giving back.”

Kate Clarke, Partner at D W Harris Solicitors, added:

“An amazing afternoon of fun and team spirit, all in the name of a local charity providing such an important service. D W Harris Solicitors had the best day kicking for a cause – we’d love to tee off again next year as this needs to be an annual event.”

Owen Davies from our Gorseinon Sales team said:

“Thank you for putting on such an enjoyable event. I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone who attended when I say how much fun it was, and how much work and effort went into making it a success. Can’t wait for the next one!”

A Shared Success for Swansea

As the curtain falls on the Cwtsh Clos Appeal, it’s heartwarming to know that every fundraiser, every bucket collection, and every act of generosity has helped bring comfort and care to families across our community.

We are proud to have been one small part of this remarkable achievement, and we will continue finding new ways to give back to the community that inspires us every day.

Together, we kicked for a cause, and helped make a lasting difference.

You can still help

While the fundraising goal has been reached, if you’d like to continue supporting NICU families (for example via maintenance, running costs, or future expansions), you can donate HERE , thank you the charity would be deeply grateful.
